I knew my date\u2019s name, Nataliya, but it was a real blind date without even a profile to read. Moreover, we didn&#8217;t speak the same language.&nbsp; I spoke only English and Nataliya spoke only Russian and Ukrainian.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"color: #000000;\">So I learned to speak Russian in three months and had a perfect blind date that lasted four days until August 2. Then\u2014in Russian\u2014I proposed. That is my language success story and this blog shares the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrike.com\/project-management-guide\/faq\/what-is-agile-methodology-in-project-management\/\">Agile<\/a> methodologies that I succeeded with and what I&#8217;ve learned retrospectively.&nbsp; It would be years before I formally practiced <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@warren2lynch\/the-brief-of-history-of-scrum-15efb73b4701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scrum <\/a>but I intuitively followed Agile Scrum principles to learn conversational Russian efficiently.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/HIASW4btjBw\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/HIASW4btjBw<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wp-caption wp-caption-text alignnone\"><strong><em>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;James and Nataliya Russian Wedding Vows<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">I followed the four steps below which require two hours and $12 up front plus one hour per day for ninety days.&nbsp; I offer no love guarantees but promise you quick language success if you follow my four Agile steps.&nbsp; Follow my harder fifth step to tackle the toughest jobs such as accent reduction.&nbsp; In line with <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.scrumstudy.com\/what-is-prioritization-in-scrum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scrum prioritization<\/a> principles, I emphasized doing the steps in the priority order below as well as prioritizing the work within each step.&nbsp; I iterated over all four steps repeatedly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\" data-font-family=\"Arial\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><strong>Step 1:&nbsp; <em>Ninety-Two Seinfeld Verbs&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>\u0414\u0435\u0432\u044f\u043d\u043e\u0441\u0442\u043e \u0434\u0432\u0430 \u0440\u0443\u0441\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0445 \u0433\u043b\u0430\u0433\u043e\u043b\u0430<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">I started by watching two hours of Seinfeld reruns and wrote down every verb used.&nbsp; I reasoned that if I learned these two hours of verbs then I could survive a date.&nbsp; Jerry and cast used ninety-two verbs which translated to learning just one verb per day for three months.&nbsp; I placed top priority on my step one verbs which constituted my <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/techcatch\/mvp-in-agile-projects-what-why-and-how-f818a2f255c7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minimum Viable Product<\/a> (MVP).&nbsp; My <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visual-paradigm.com\/scrum\/definition-of-done-vs-acceptance-criteria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Definition of Done<\/a> was clear &#8212; learn all ninety two verbs in the present tense.&nbsp; Following Agile Scrum ways, I regularly iterated over my learned Russian verbs to perfect my knowledge of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: 400; I ordered and learned them from most basic and common like <em>meelaya maya (my sweetie),<\/em> <em>golupka maya<\/em> (my dove) and <em>solnishka maya<\/em> (my sunshine) to romantic showstoppers like <em>dama maeva serdtsa<\/em> (queen of my heart).&nbsp; I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agilechamps.com\/scrum-ceremonies-demoreview-or-showcase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showcased<\/a> my progress with my colleagues to develop an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scrum.org\/forum\/scrum-forum\/5927\/feedback-loop-and-inspect-adapt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">inspect and adapt<\/a> feedback loop.<\/p>\n<p data-font-family=\"Arial\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\" data-font-family=\"Arial\" data-font-weight=\"400\" data-font-style=\"\"><strong>Step 3:&nbsp; <em>Frequency Focus&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><em>\u0424\u043e\u043a\u0443\u0441 \u0447\u0430\u0441\u0442\u043e\u0442\u044b<\/em><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">I soon found learning one verb and one sweet nothing per day too easy so I spent $12 on a book with an ordered list of the most frequently used Russian words. I allotted time to learn twelve nouns from the book each day plus the one verb and one sweet nothing.
